OWNER AND DIRECTOR OF DESIGN

In 2017, Megan Ashley Designs was born. I started up and successfully ran my own stationery business on a part-time basis. I acquired dozens of customers over the last 5 years and have had a ton of repeat business. From design concept to tangible product, I created, designed, and produced the following categories of items: invitations for weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, bridal showers, announcements, save the dates, thank you cards, menus, signage, banners, place cards, table numbers, bridal party gifts, and more. I was able to customize each client's experience and collaborated with fellow stationers and artists to help bring the customer experience to the next level.

Gold Rings and Chain Bracelets

DESIGN DIRECTOR

June 2016 - August 2017

SENIOR DESIGNER

September 2012 - June 2016

DESIGNER

August 2008 - September 2012

After being offered an opportunity for growth, I took it and began working at The NES Group in August of 2008. I switched gears from soft accessories and moved into fashion jewelry. The fashion jewelry division was brand new and I was apart of its growth from the very beginning. In my first role as Designer, my main focus was licensing. I worked on Marvel and Apple Bottoms for the first few years of my career. The division eventually moved away from licensing to focus on big box retailers and specialty stores. By the time I was Senior Designer, I was handling all the major retailers and running million dollar accounts. As the division grew, so did my role. I created multiple lines and collections for each of my customers. I also started dabbling in packaging for the specialty stores interested in specialty carding and boxes. By age 29, I made Design Director and was managing the design team. My responsibilities ranged at NES as I grew with the company. I created tech sheets and specification sheets for jewelry and for packaging, developed collections for specific customers each season, forecasted trends by going retail shopping and to trade shows, prepared presentations for meetings, traveled domestically for sales meetings, traveled overseas to China twice a year from 2010 to 2017 for product development and trend research, and managed the entire design team.

Straw Hat

PRODUCT DESIGN ASSISTANT

June 2007 - August 2008

Just one week after my college graduation, I landed the role of Product Design Assistant at Capelli New York. I reported to and assisted the Product Design Manager and associates in all areas of the department. Our department was responsible for straw hats and straw bags, cold weather knits, magic gloves, legwarmers, knit wraps, and ruanas. We designed and manufactured goods for big box retailers and specialty stores in the United States and in Europe. My responsibilities included creating tech sheets and specification sheets to be sent to factories overseas for development, logging in samples, reviewing samples, and revising samples as needed. Trend research was also at the forefront and I researched trends by going retail shopping, attending trade shows, and working with the material department to source fabrics, trims, and yarns. I would also collaborate with the other assistants and associates to create trends boards for each season. I also assisted in administrative tasks such as the upkeep of the sample library, organizing binders, filing sales orders, merchandising the showroom, and creating color cards for the season.
